The Prophetic Lament
In ancient Israel the role of a prophet was to know God's heart. The prophet had to take up that same lament and publicly express it. These prophets didn't avoid or dismiss the brokenness or injustice in their world but they entered into it through word and actions. And so from the example of Jesus we see that unlike our society which numbs and avoids, we as followers of Jesus are meant to offer to God prayers of grief and lament.
