The Importance of Habits in Decision Making

I feel like we throw around towards behaviour, habits, maybe routines as well. But I think most people might struggle with putting on the spot, defining the differences between those different terms. People don't differentiate among all of those different constructs. And it's important because our brains are not just a single unit. They're not just a unified whole. Instead, they evolved in sort of fits and starts over human history. We have different neural systems that evolved to do slightly different things. Of course, they're all integrated, but they also function somewhat separately. So there's a habit learning system that is designed specifically to pick up repetition of behaviour in a given context.
