Shoes were of manolo's blood. His spanish mother pored over the latest fashions from london and paris. Manolo left the canary islands to go first to geneva to study law, and then to paris to study art. He'd set his heart on becoming a set designer for theatre and films. A friend suggested he set up a meeting with the then editor in chief of american vogue, the great diana reeland. She said, oh, concentrateon extremities.
