The Importance of the First Amendment in Donald Trump's Indictment
This is a very significant First Amendment development. It's up there with Dred Scott and Brown versus Board of Education. The only reason to set this up is to undermine the credibility of America's institutions either way. Imagine the political fallout from a Supreme Court on which three United States justices were appointed by President Trump, throwing out a case in which Donald Trump was convicted of conspiring to overturn an election. If they convict on spurious charges, half the country believes that it's bull crap; now if it gets overturned, the other half also believes done. This is why you should not charge things that do exist but don't exist.
