Most of the great mysteries that I can think of offhand are usually incredible romances as well but one of the things that Agatha Christie never gets credit for is that she was an incredible romantic writer. A lot of her best books are about people who are saddled with a relationship that they desperately want to be out of or someone that they love and would hope to kill for even something as hard boiled as the postman always rings twice. To me makes any mystery story murder story about the darker side of all the emotions that we are capable of feeling a lot of people.
