"We had no idea what the story would look like. We kind of had a sense it wouldn't be this american life episode, but we didn't know what shape," says co-creator Julia Louis-Dreyfus. "It's a portrait of the town in this way where, like, we tell complete left turns that have nothing, or very little to do with john."
