T-Pain's biggest hit, Buy You A Drink, peaked at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100. He used auto tune to explore his own voice as a singer and was inspired by R&B greats like Teddy Riley. People associated T-Pain specifically with auto tune and a kind of cheapening of the music industry in general. But he was legitimately trying to use this technology to create something unique as an artist just like Cher was.
