People often incorrectly assume that currency actually doesn't have any value, it's just what we decide it's worth. The truth is of course, cash does have utility value in the sense that it facilitates trade on an individual nationwide and global level. It can be used as a store of wealth, even if there are probably better options available, and most importantly, it's the only way that you can pay your taxes.
