Mary Mason Jones: The Pioneer of New York City Architecture
Mary Mason Jones and her sister Rebecca inherited land that the Jones family had owned for generations on Upper Fifth Avenue near where Central Park was under construction. Mary built a row of marble French Chateau style houses on the land she inherited. She later immortalized in Edith Wharton's book The Age of Innocence as Mrs. Manson Mingott, who in the book would famously sit in her south facing parlor waiting for society to catch up to her.
