A customer was running a big test whip to make sure that it didn't crash anything. It took like forty minutes to run, and ended up flickering about lik 50, 70% of the time. So any change going into production would have taken maybe an hour or longer. The team responsible for this code base behaved as if they were 'haunted' by its problems. They decided to put metrics in ther measuring what do we get from each part of the test? If you can't prove something, measure it and sheck the metric. That is really powerful, the scientific method, of course.
