The Power of Speech in the New World
Krathers says, just look for speech. Speech is their reality. And what that does is it displaces all of the ways of knowing reality that assume that Black life in order to fit into the category that we believe is the category must look a certain way. We no longer ask the whole well what's a state? Is there such a thing as an African state? All right. Africana Studies should be in a position to say well this is what it is but it takes a lot of study of alternative ways of conceiving reality and for Carothers it starts with speech.
