The key to this question is you don't always have to dip the nib and the grip section into the ink bottle or in this case file. You can just fill the converter. That's what I do with the Robert Auster bottles and ink bottles. Some people will then just dip the nib of the pen into there. Even though knowing you're not going to drop into it, you at least kind of get the feed inked up.
