Do You Have a Coalition to Build the Big Space Telescope?

The idea that you can separate the science and politics in any easy fashion just does not work, i think, with these really big scale projects. With the james webb space telescope, there's a near death experience in 20 11, whena congressional committee zerosjames webb out of the budget. So it was kind of putting together a coalition on the fly, which is a dangerous way to do it, i think. And so hobble established its coalition right at the very start, and when there were difficulties, you have these groups and people and institutions you can on to go advocate, yet again, to keep the project moving.
