The Great Terror
In the 19 thirties, what becomes known as the great terror was carried out both against the party elite and people who might be potential rivals to stolan. Average citizens were being targeted. It also spread to the churches where nearly all places of worship were closed. Over a hundred 65 thousand churchmen were arrested for practising their religion. By 19 37 and 19 38, there were about one thousand executions per day. Between 19 32 and 19 39, the population of the soviet union declined by nine to ten million people.
