The great apes live in small communities and they're closed communities. You know, gorillas don't go and visit the gorilla group next door. But as humans do, forager groups are very socially fluid people move between groups. So the social networks are open and that makes possible for them to be bigger. It makes it possible to have much larger cooperation networks.
