Retire Into God, O Filathe

We retire into God because we aspire to be with Him. We offer brief and frequent prayers which the great St. Augustine so strongly recommended to the devout Lady Proba. This exercise is not difficult for it may be intermixed with our business and occupations without at all hindering them. When the pilgrim takes a little wine to cheer his heart and wet his mouth, he stops for only a moment but does not interrupt his journey in this way. Far from being a hindrance, in spiritual retreat or in such brief and frequent interior prayer, we only experience little and short diversions which in fact assist us in the pursuit of what we were then doing.
