Is the Self a Kind of an All or Nothing Cause?
If the self is tied completely to language, then does that mean that children up to the age of two don't have a self? Well, i mean, there are some philosophers who have argued that. Maybe th maybe the self, like consciousnesss, is not a sort of an all or nothing cause. Once we have a self, we are a person and we have moral rights. And if you have that that doesn't really exist for infants, then it's not clear what their moral status is.
