A Brief History of Gév Jakobson
Gév Jakobson made major contributions to the theory of linguistics, especially phonology and linguistic geography. He was appointed to a regular professorship at Columbia in 1946. From 1957 onwards he held a concurrent appointment at MIT. In practice he was extremely active until the very day of his death. It is comforting to know that the Soviet anathema was subsequently withdrawn.
