The Theology of Leviticus

The adam and eve story, the golden calf story and this unauthorized fire story are all fall stories of israel's disobedience in sacred space. God punishes them for their disobedience by having the levites go through the camp and kill three thousand of thep again. The deaths of nadab and abaihu were an appropriate response for daring to try to ruin everything even if it was inadvertent.
