Is 300 Kilobytes a Good Number?

In the beginning of Bitcoin, blocks were effectively 32 megabytes. Satoshi realized that would cause problems and decided to make them one megabyte. He did not tell anyone he was going to do this so it happened without any discussion. The number is an arbitrary figure but there's a point at which you're making blocks too small for use.
