Only a pretty small fraction of the brain is really critically involved in language. We're talking about a subset of regions, mostly in the left hemisphere. The locus of that internal system and the way it is encoded in the brain are total mysteries. Nobody has any idea how to deal with the coding of the knowledge that's internal,. So, let's just take a word in our common sense. Nobody speaks English and understands German. It's the same.
