For a while he tried to persuade his friend john sebastian to let him play bass in his new band. But when the love in spoonful decided against having him in the band, he decided to move west to san francisco. Soon after he got there, he hooked up with two other musicians, a guitavist named steve young and a singer, guitarist and pianist named van dyke parks. The squires even renamed themselves the high flying birds, after the song that stills had recorded
