It's like everything has to be relentlessly qualified, because you don't want to leave yourself open to. It just means that everything is three times as long and confusing as it needs to be. My playwriting teacher told me this a long time ago that the worst sin in writing is willful obscurity. You make it so weird and complicated and convoluted that people will just think, I'm not smart enough to figure this out.
