Do Olympic Lifts Really Work?

Athlete wants to avoid the olympic lips, but still develop power and explosivity. Are there any alternative exercises that might be really helpful in this way? I'm a big fan of med ball exercises, assuming people have access to an unappropriate wall to throw med balls to. Using sleds or prowlers is a nice way of training explosiveness and power. Use their own body, an open force bacer or open track spase for sprints.
