In 17 76, when tuson was in his early thirties, his master allowed him to purchase his freedom. He then stayed on the as a free black manager. It is impossible to imagine tousson not knowing what was being planned. His actual role in the early stages of the rebellion is pretty unknown. What we do know is that he was not amongst those leading the initial charge.
