Is There Something Reductive About Theory?
Lillian Gaterway: Some of the joy that comes from understanding theory is not immediately translatable to how we think and talk about politics now. And so I kind of almost want to make a plea for theory not to be immediately shoved into, you know, "How can I put this in my back pocket and Joe blow up a pipeline or something?" She says there are many sophisticated ways for understanding the relationship between theory and practice without asking whether it will have an impact on our daily lives. LillianGaterway: The whole conversation of theory and practice is hijacked by the subsumption of practice under like this instrumental conception of practice.
