E.W. Kemble, who I was not familiar with, but he was fascinated by this example. So it sounds like almost what you're doing is you're looking at a literature where they've identified someone as a villain or they're playing this part of the story. But you're seeing something deeper underneath that. Well, I'm looking at those texts that present poor whites as a problem. And thenI'm looking at a much smaller set of texts that seem to challenge those representations. And I'm looking into how they do it and why they do it.
