The Role of the Federal Government in the Fair Housing Act
The federal government gives out billions of dollars in grants to communities all over the country every year. HUD would then consider withholding funds from communities that either submit weak plans or don't follow through on their plans. The hope with this rule is that communities would certify to the federal government, here's what we're going to do to do fair housing.
