The army's growing wealth and influence will strengthen the executive branch in some ways, but we'll also weaken its civilian leaders. The militarization of law enforcement means that the civilian government is basically not executing one of its most important functions. It's really unclear what checks and balances there will be on the army and its growing powers. And in the economy, it's very hard to see what checks there will be.
