Democracy is very little jack-a-paw on doing things that are harmful in the long run, but it just takes a long time for the damage to be obvious. Democracy's have been terrible at cashing in on the incredible potential of nuclear power. If there was a way that we could go and eliminate aging, I think democracy would not bother because it's just what we are used to death. This is really the probably most neglected concept in all of psychology. It explains a lot, but even psychologists themselves don't really give it as do.
