Symptoms of Naphrodic Syndrome
Naphrodic syndrome is defined by proteinuria greater than 3 to 3.5 grams per day, hypoalbionemia less than 25 grams per liter, peripheral edema and hyperlipidemia. Urinary losses of anticoagulant proteins are some of the primary contributing factors that increased risk of arterial and venous thromboembolism in this patient population. Patients should also be asked about dysmia as they may develop plural effusions. Other symptoms of PE or DVT, such as pleuronic chest pain, hemoptysis, or calf pain, should be clarified on history.
