What I've Learned About the Cross
As a kid, I didn't know anyone who wore a cross and I'm pretty embarrassed to say that I probably would have felt uncomfortable or maybe vaguely distrustful of someone who did wear one. By the time I was born in 1963 there had grown up a huge kind of cultural prohibition about it. And looking back at it now as an adult...I think it was plain old distrust of Catholicism. That's what I think it was.
