The Conquest of the Doors

The Catholic Church used sacred violence to gather its hegemony. The pagans of Europe were enlightened via the sacred violence of Charlemagne's France. A group of lab coats found that by applying electromagnetic charge to parts of the brain known as the posterior medial frontal cortex, they could reduce belief in God but also reduce ignorance or bias against immigrants and foreigners. If we had remained all pagans, we might actually be a lot more irrelevant than we are in holidays.
