How to Learn English From Listening

The internet has allowed us to use listening as the primary source of information transfer today so listening is more and more important all the time. What do we actually know about how people can learn English from listening? We're going to start by talking about input versus intake which is one of the things I read in the book Input then versus intake is part of the theory of language acquisition.
