A lot of this is caused by just the the general low skill of engineering management it sounds really bad when I say that way. People get roped into it they don't often deliberately choose and certainly don't like study or prep a lot to go into it so there's a lot of engineering managers out there who are competent technical folks who who talk real good but not enough. Part of what we do by presupposing a good manager is is help our listeners have expectations of what good behavior looks like, he says.
