The Fall of the Pythagoreans

The fall of the Pythagoreans took place much earlier, as we discussed last episode. Yom Bluchus is writing hundreds of years later, so we'll cut him some slack. The story also tells us something very important about esotericism more generally. Esoteric movements always posit in some way or another an inner and an outer group. These philosophers are simply refusing to divulge a secret,. but read gesturally their actions convey lessons about the proper staunchness and reserve of the true philosopher.
