Is Reductionism the New Mechanist?
There's this huge anti reductionism movement right now in neuro science. Is that you think we are just naturally more comfortable with reductive explanations? We're more comfortable with them for reasons that might have to do with culture and the types of stories that we tell about the world. If you tell a story that's machine like, you're encouraged to think of lower level parts. And we've been comparing the natural world to machines for a very long time.
