Episode CCVII - The Gallic Empire

Emperors of Rome

CHAPTER

Introduction

The revolt of Posthumus, a Roman senatorial governor on the Rhine frontier, eventually leads to the formation of an empire which we call the Gallic Empire. This remained largely independent going forward, definitely for the rest of Gallianus's reign. The Emperor Aurelian who reigns from 270 to 275 reunites all the disparate parts of the Roman Empire and in 274 he finally defeats the so-called GallIC Empire.
