Everything about us is conditioned by the past. I think this idea of figuring out what we value is an easy phrase to say, but is extraordinarily difficult work. It often means rejecting people and institutions that have many times done well by us. And now, i read something amazing from adam grant the other day. He said, too many people spend their lives being dutiful descendants instead of good ancestors. The responsibility of each generation is not to please their predecessors,.
