Christianity and America have been negotiating their relationship for 400 years. There's a wide variety of historic Christian ethics that Christian culture in America has capitulated to the nation around it. It's not until we interact with another faith like Islam who is also struggling with this identity that we come to see how much we as American Christians have capitulated to broader American cultural trends.
