Is the journey to self-discovery pointless?

The Gray Area with Sean Illing

CHAPTER

The Importance of Self-Understanding

I suspect also our cultural mythology according to which if I can achieve self-knowledge I will thereby achieve happiness is something that many of us accept. It seems to me a person could achieve a great deal of self-knowledge or self-understanding and still be unhappy because they don't act on it. Whether it's true or not if people accept it that would still help explain why people seek that. Why people attempt to achieve that? If we're society it's moving at least a bit away from materialism as a way of achieving happiness but appreciation of experiences and relationships and so forth. Unstrikes me as all to the good.
