The Greeks were very interested in the idea of appearance. They had these mythologies that created narratives to help you kind of like try to make sense. But with Plato and the philosophers they turned it on its head. So for example a perfect circle doesn't exist but we can conceptualize a perfect circle as a form. And that's more than what's actually because every time you draw a circle it's going to be less than a circle.
