The Importance of Literacy Training in Early 20th Century China
The author argues that the biases invented in the narrative of nation building and modernization played a significant role in people's acceptance of political authorities call for literacy training. He says mass literacy was treated as a precondition to building a modern nation state. The importance of literacy was understood out of social context and the daily interactions, he writes.
