Mikio and yasuko de mezawa met at a self development seminar during the 19 eighties. The couple had two young children, daughter nina and son rai. Their plans to move were complicated by their six-year-old son's learning disabilities. Mikio worked in corporate identity for major corporations before moving into animation. His colleagues described him as a congenial man who got on well with everyone. He eventually secured a position at London based marketing company interbrand.
