The book i have in mind is 50 words for rain by asha lemy. It came out three ish years ago. It's about a young girl who was the daughter of an upper class japanese woman and a african american g iwho was there overseas for the war. So this is definitely a book that has its elements of heartbreak. There's so much life love, earnest and also misdirected. I think there's a lot there you would find really interesting.
