#1541 Ten Things About Dolley Madison

Listening to America

00:00

Jefferson and Dolly

Dolly was the master at making sure there wasn't conflict which I am sure Jefferson appreciated because he hated conflict. Even if she sometimes was annoyed by him she just figured out how to ignore it or to get around it or to just make it work because it was so important. There have been few if any partnerships of that capacity in American history. We'd like to imagine James Madison coming home and Jefferson has just done some crazy thing some letter about law and liberty. Inserted a clause about an electrification into his resolution in Virginia. Just the weirder wilder more radical side of Thomas Jefferson.
