The Relationship Between Philosophy and the Sciences

A common way in which people conceive of the relationship between philosophy and the sciences is that there's a community of scientists working in labs. And then over at some other end of the university, there's this kind of strange group of philosophers who are looking at what the scientists are doing. So i think it's actually a really unhelpful model of an picturing that relationship. It prompts the thought that philosophy is probably unnecessary to the sciences.
