The Great Transformation of the JSP

After 1993 election, JSP was not in driving seat of the coalition government. Murayama Tomichi became Japan's prime minister and he announced a 'great transformation' The party had built its identity around an oppositional stance on issues such as military alliance with U.S. It has spent years since then battling for survival, barely surpassing minimum 2% vote share needed to participate in national politics.
