Lee was attempting to invade land. He would never tell anybody his plans either, which youd just nobody would know. The order that he gave telling where all the armies was going to be, was aped around a cigar by one of his people and left in a field where union people found it. So mc clellan knew exactly where he was. And so he couldn't do his invasion plan. They managed not to get crushed at antedam. It was an intelligence failure.
