Is the One China Policy Really Changing the Thinking of Young Chinese People?
Tong Jai: The Chinese system has created this problem to some degree by emphasizing nationalism so much, emphasizing the one China policy. He says that as more young Chinese people developed their identity within this system, there is no incentive for them to claim their Chinese identity. Tong Jai: Just imagine if China used force to keep a part of the U.S. separate from the mainland United States for decades and made the Hawaii capable of appointing their own president - they'd be enjoying all this independence. That's an interesting idea.
